Eric The Red Doing Magic at EDC
yes you read that right. I was booked to do Magic at EDC.
Now, how did this opportunity even come about? For that, we need a little backstory.
The company behind EDC, Insomniac, has a long history of incorporating magicians into their festivals and events. One of those magicians is my good friend, Lauro Castillo. Over the years, Lauro has performed magic at numerous Insomniac events and has often brought other magicians onto his teams for special projects.
When he was asked to perform at EDC Las Vegas, he recommended me as an additional performer. He passed my name along to the appropriate people, and before long, I was contacted and officially booked for the event.
Before diving into the experience of performing at EDC, let's talk about getting to Las Vegas. Should you fly or drive?
My recommendation is to drive whenever possible. While flying can certainly work, it comes with risks that performers should consider. Flights can be delayed or canceled, airports can add stress to an already busy schedule, and there is always the possibility of checked luggage being delayed or lost. For entertainers traveling with costumes, props, or equipment, those risks can create unnecessary complications.
Driving eliminates many of those concerns. You have complete control over your schedule, your equipment stays with you, and you arrive with the added convenience of having your own vehicle throughout your stay. For me, that peace of mind was worth the extra time on the road.
Now lets talk about the preparation to do Magic at EDC.
Now I had to Study up on a few things before doing Magic at EDC. I had to study EDC and learn what I could bring to this event. Lauro and I were also going to perform as the Accountants for Uncle Tony. I also had to prepare my self both physically and mentally for EDC so I could bring my best to perform Magic.
Now they had us performing Magic in the Uncle Tony’s Social club building. They made this building look like a 1950’s speak easy. They had us in a corner sections behind the accounting desk doing Magic. They also had a bit of a dress code. I chose the hat and vest and dress shirt and slacks to best fit mobster accountant.
how does Magic even happen at EDC?
So they Had us from doors open at 7pm all the way to 4am the next day. we performed Magic to the people going through all the performance area. At the same time they also had other acts in the area. They had other mobsters and also they had other performing acts. They had a band with singers, a circus juggling act, and even dancers throughout the night. They really made it a full 1950’s experience. At the beginning of the night people would trickle in. I could do Magic to groups for a good amount of time. But then the flood of people would start. I would the start of the night have groups of 3, 4 , 5, people at a time. Just a little later in the night it could easily be 10 or 15 people at a moment. I did Magic to so many people I lost count after the first hour.
As the night went on and the music was loud enough I had to start doing Magic that required little talking or after the first trick no talking. But as you know the show must go on. So I powered through.
How did the venue treat us? Amazingly !!!!
EDC was so amazing to work with. They had everything figured out. They made sure we everything we needed like water, food, and other important services was always available. They checked up on everyone and made the whole experience was smooth. I would defiantly work for this company again given the chance.
When will you be back in Vegas again?
I have no current bookings in Las Vegas. But if you have an event in Las Vegas and need a Magician feel free to reach out.
Thank you and always
Magically Yours
